Building Bonds: 3 Fun Ways to Foster Friendships

Hey there fabulous ladies, and welcome to my first-ever blog post – woohoo! 🥳 Since it’s my birthday, I thought I’d kick things off with a personal tale of self-discovery. I’ve always been a bit on the shy side, so making friends was difficult. In addition to the shyness, I recently learned that I have ADHD, which makes keeping friendships a somewhat daunting task for many reasons (we can dive into that in another post.)

I have a lot of acquaintances and get along with with almost everyone. Still, something is missing. I long for connections and close relationships with other women. My hubby and I have our couple friends, but I’ve always felt like I’m missing out on those meaningful one-on-one connections with the other wives.

So, one day, I spilled my heartache to my therapist (side note: therapy? Highly recommend it – seriously, it’s like a warm hug for your soul!). And guess what? She dropped a gem of an idea on me… host a monthly get-together!

I was immediately excited about the idea. Who says I have to wait for an invitation from those friends I don’t see too often. So, I whipped out my pen and made a list of potential guests. My sis-in-law, check. Work buddy I’ve never hung out with outside the office, check. Even threw in an old high school friend and one of the wives from our couples friendship.

Now on to the fun part – the actual get-together! Here’s what I did, and trust me, it’s a blast:

Scrapbooking Soirée

I invited the girls to bring their cherished photos and I provided my expansive unused supply of scrapbooking supplies. We laughed, reminisced, and got crafty in my amazing crafting room (I’ll spill the beans on that magical space another time!). Not into scrapbooking? No worries, there are a zillion other ways to have a blast with your pals.

Movie Night Extravaganza

Snuggle up in a blanket and grab a flick – whether it’s a rom-com or an action-packed adventure, pick your poison. Popcorn’s popping, and everyone’s invited to bring a snack to share. Cue the cozy vibes!

Bake-Off Bonanza

Love baking? Or maybe you’re like me, dreaming of whipping up sweet treats but dread going solo in the kitchen? Enter the baking party! Ask your friends to bring their fave cookie recipe and ingredients, and you supply the basics – flour, sugar, the works. Swap cookies at the end and indulge in a sugary delight.

So there you have it, ladies – a little glimpse into my journey of forging meaningful connections. Remember, it’s never too late to expand your circle and create unforgettable moments with new pals. Encourage them to bring along a buddy, and let the good times roll!
